The Cottage Tea Room

After the jet crash in 1952 when the bank on the corner of Ranelagh Grove was demolished, it became necessary for the occupants to obtain temporary premises. My house, at 35, High Street, was almost opposite so I offered the manager the use of my front sitting room until the bank could make alternative arrangements. It took quite a while, almost two years, to find another site further along the high street where the language school is now. Meantime I had moved my sitting room upstairs in order to accommodate the bank and, to my surprise, I found I liked it better than being on the ground floor. When the bank finally moved, therefore I was left with an empty room and the problem of what to do with it.
